With a new year marks a new trip for the ImTech team to CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics trade show held in Sin City, Las Vegas. From high tech 3D specs to designer headphones, to miniature back massaging robots to electric super cars fit for an eco-friendly Bruce Wayne, this year’s CES saw about 140,000 attendees throughout the tradeshow days and 2,700 technology companies spanning global technology industries.
As awesome as Samsung’s new wi-fi capable fridges and front-mount washers & driers were, we at ImTech were looking out for of course, immersive technologies; cool gadgets and new cutting edge products that provide a more immersive experience by engaging a) multiple senses or b) a single sense more in-depthly.
This year was HUGE for new tablets. 3d TV’s were introduced last year but took a small backseat to make way for the frenzy spurred by Apple over simple app based tablets. (This year at CES, over 100 tablets were introduced with every mobile carrier represented). Since most of these tablets are promised to run Google’s Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), we can’t wait for what new augmented reality apps will be developed for these devices.
Check out some of our photos for the event!

With how ridiculously sharp LG’s HD tv’s were, it’s only a matter of time before this baby panda cub will one day be able to reach through the screen and smack us in the face with bamboo.
Even though tablets took center stage this year, there was definitely no slouching on 3d TV improvements. The pictures were clearer, sharper, and more realistic since their big introduction at last year’s CES. In addition, this year’s CES came along with features on 3d tv’s that don’t require cumbersome spectacles. Though image quality may be a little fuzzy on these units, we can’t wait to see how much they will improve within the year!

Not just sharper TV’s, but ultra-thin and ultra-unobstrusive. How do they fit everything in there!?

This is an immersive driving experience offering from LG. 3D imaging, multi-dimensional, and multi-depth display make you feel like you are really driving, not just playing a game. I nearly fell out of my seat when the car crashed.

Not necessarily as cool as the telepresence robot TILR, but we enjoyed this little automated butler with its quirky movement patterns and eerily sentient smart-sensor system that allowed it to go back to its dock on its own.

Consumer product released off of one of our favorite immersive environment movies (lol not necessarily for the story though), TRON. Special DAFT PUNK edition headphones from Monster and of course, the battle disc.

The Audi R8 E-Tron edition in a sexy smooth flat black. Not necessarily an immersive product, but damn. Just…. damn.

An interactive display table by Audi showing their newest safety software. Pretty cool interface using a sensor “puck”. The Audi rep would toss it out and control view/movement of the map with the puck. It felt like I was standing at a craps table from the future.

Blue Man gives a speech on emerging immersive technologies, an exciting field indeed!

Blue Man posing with the biggest immersive film of recent years, Avatar.

And what’s a Vegas trip without a night of partying hard. ATB @ the Marquee Nightclub (Cosmopolitan Hotel). BANANAS.
