FredNikgohar Speakers Fred Nikgohar, Founder & CEO, RoboDynamics Fred Nikgohar is founder and Chief Executive Officer at RoboDynamics, creating world’s first commercial Enterprise Robotic Telepresence platform for remote collaborations. Prior to RoboDynamics Fred founded Summit Rock Capital, a real estate investment company focusing on the greater Los Angeles market, and continues to be active as a board member. He is also active in angel investing and is one of the founding partners of Dork Labs, a business incubator focusing on the cross-section of Mobile and Social applications. Fred has published multiple peer reviewed scientific papers in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Bonnie Bucker is the CEO of MicroFocus Media, a corporate and political marketing research firm she co-created, founded and helped bring to success. She is also a co-founder of BC, a restoration and urban renewal benture. In these capacities Bonnie has worked with U.S. Presidential and other prominent national political campaigns, as well as helped organize community grass-roots neighborhood improvement efforts in conjunction with city boards and non-profit organizations.

mark bolas 300x225 Speakers Mark Bolas, USC School of Cinematic Arts Mark Bolas is a research scientist, artist, and designer exploring perception, agency, and intelligence. His work focuses on creating virtual environments and transducers that fully engage one’s perception and cognition, and create a visceral memory of the experience. Amongst his courses at the undergraduate and graduate level are the design for interactive media and the business of interactive media. Bolas’ 1988-89 thesis work “Design and Virtual Environments” was among the first efforts to map the breadth of virtual reality as a new medium. He has been a professor at Stanford University and KEIO University and is chairman of Fakespace Labs in Mountain View, California, which he co-founded in 1989 with Ian McDowall and Eric Lorimer to build instrumentation for research labs to explore virtual reality and grow the emerging field.

AlexMcDowell Speakers Alex McDowell, Co-Founder, 5D Conference
Alex McDowell is one of the most innovative and influential designers working in the film industry today, with the impact of his ideas extending far beyond cinema. McDowell advocates an immersive design process that acknowledges the key world-building role of design in narrative media. McDowell has designed for directors as diverse as Steven Spielberg and Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton and David Fincher. Amongst a raft of narrative design projects, he is currently designing ‘Now’ for writer director Andrew Niccol. With many awards for his film design work, McDowell was named Royal Designer for Industry by the UK’s most prestigious design society, the Royal Society of Arts, in 2006. Alex McDowell is co-director of the revolutionary new space “5D: The Future of Immersive Design”, which exists as a biennale conference, a global series of distributed events, and an expanding community of designers and practitioners in cross-media, transmedia narrative world building.

Kate McCallum is the founder of C3: Center for Conscious Creativity and Bridge Arts Media, LLC. Writer, Producer, and Novice Futurist. Kate holds an MA in Consciousness Studies and founded the C3:in 2004 to provide research and education, and promote emerging future trends in arts, media, technology, consciousness and applied creativity towards positive change.

EdLantz Speakers Ed Lantz, Founding Director, IMERSA Ed Lantz is CEO and co-founder of Vortex Immersion Media, an entertainment technology company developing large-scale immersive and interactive experiences and attractions. Ed spent 7 years leading advanced photonics R&D for aerospace applications before he left the field to pioneer large-format digital cinema and immersive experiences for planetariums and themed entertainment. At Spitz, Inc. he designed and installed over a dozen digital dome theaters including the Library of Alexandria planetarium in Egypt, Domo Digital at Papalote Museo in Mexico City, and the Autostadt dome for Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany. His company recently opened the Vortex Dome in downtown Los Angeles, an immersive media studio, screening room and events space which is hosting the Immersive Tech conference. He holds an MS in Electrical Engineering serves on the boards of the Center for Visual Music, the Center for Conscious Cretivity and IMERSA, and holds two US Patents on immersive video-based theater technology.

patty Speakers Patricia Rangel, Technology and Product Development, AV Concepts Patricia Rangel received her Master of Fine Arts in Management (with an emphasis in Producing) from CalArts. She has worked extensively in international project management with clients such as the Shanghai World Expo, Centennial Olympic Games, Vancouver Olympic Games, Coca Cola Greater China, ESPN, and the United Nations. At AV Concepts Ms. Rangel works exclusively with the Musion 3D Holographic Stage and integration of emerging technologies for custom solutions. Her work includes experience in fully immersive Virtual Reality, 3D Stereoscopic Projection, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, Virtual Configurators, Brain-Computer Interface, and Virtual Worlds. As a professional laser holographer, Ms. Rangel has exhibited her work at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, the Burning Man Festival, San Diego Space 4 Art, Synergy Foundation’s “Art Revelry”, and the CalArts Main Gallery. During the development of her pre-PhD work, Ms. Rangel collaborated with world-renowned DaVinci Detective and National Geographic Fellow, Maurizio Seracini. The work entailed the creation of a portable color holography system to compliment Seracini’s multi-spectral imaging and art diagnostics.

Morie is widely published with numerous papers on virtual worlds, virtual reality, games and their social impacts. She is also a member of the International Visual Effects Society, the Digital Games Research Association, Women and Games International, the Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback Society, and the International Society of Presence Research.

Dallas graduated from the Art Institute of Burnaby in 2008 as an 3D environment artist. With a combination of high level goals, creativity and knowledge of artistic process, Dallas is a newly upcoming lead in the virtual world industry. At VWW, Dallas manages a diverse art team to ensure that, given practical boundaries of scope and scheduling, the most compelling environments, graphics and characters are delivered. As a pioneer and AR visionary, he has led Total Immersion’s global expansion and built the company’s client roster with blue chip accounts that include Disney, McDonald’s, Mattel, Twentieth Century Fox and Nissan Motors. He also is responsible for developing strategic alliances, bringing his vision for the potential of next gen AR to these relationships. Before establishing Total Immersion, Uzzan served as a consultant for Pierre Henri Scacchi and Associates (Price Waterhouse Group). He holds a masters degree in management from the University of Paris Dauphine.

Since then, Peter serves as CTO and helped to make Metaio one of the leading companies for the development and licensing of Augmented Reality Technology, worldwide. Metaio has over 50 employees in its locations in Munich, Seoul and San Francisco. Peter Meier actively takes part in expanding Metaio’s technology and products.

zakhor Speakers Avideh Zakhor, Professor Electrical Engineering, UC Berkeley Avideh Zakhor joined the faculty at UC Berkeley in 1988 where she is currently the Qualcomm Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. Her areas of interest include theories and applications of signal, image and video processing, 3D computer vision, and multimedia networking. She has won a number of best paper awards, including the IEEE Signal Processing Society in 1997 and 2009, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society in 1997 and 1999, international conference on image processing in 1999, Packet Video Workshop in 2002, and IEEE Workshop on Multimodal Sentient Computing in 2007. She holds 6 U.S. patents, and is the co-author of three books with her students.

JoAnnKucheraMorin Speakers Dr. JoAnn Kuchera-Morin, Director Allosphere Research Laboratory Dr. JoAnn Kuchera-Morin is a composer, Professor of Media Arts and Technology and Music, and a researcher in multi-modal media systems, content and facilities design. She created, built, and designed the Center for Research in Electronic Art Technology and has been the Center’s Director since its inception in 1986. Her years of experience in digital media research led to the creation of a multi-million dollar sponsored research program for the University of California, the Digital Media Innovation Program. In 2000 she began the creation, design, and development of a Digital Media Center within the California Nanosystems Institute. The culmination of her design is the Allosphere Research Laboratory, a three-story metal sphere inside an echo-free cube, designed for immersive, interactive scientific and artistic investigation of multi-dimensional data sets. She serves as Director of the Allosphere Research Facility.

HowardLichtman Speakers Howard S. Lichtman, Human Productivity Lab Howard S. Lichtman is a productivity-focused technology technologist, author, publisher and consultant with specialties in telepresence and visual collaboration to improve organizational and personal productivity. He is the founder and president of the Human Productivity Lab, an independent consultancy and research firm that helps organizations design telepresence strategies and deploy telepresence solutions. He is the publisher of Telepresence Options, the #1 website on the Internet covering the telepresence revolution and editor of the Telepresence Options Telegraph, the world’s most widely read publication covering telepresence technologies.

GregHyver Speakers Greg Hyver, VP BCINet Mr. Hyver has 30 years of high-technology experience working in Silicon Valley firms. He spent ten years working within the Aerospace and Defense industry at Lockheed Missiles and Space, serving as a software and hardware engineer for “Star Wars” defense projects. In the late 80’s, Mr. Hyver joined Market Intelligence Research Company as Senior Market Researcher and, in 1994, joined Xilinx as Product / Test Engineering Manager in the ASIC division. In 2005, he joined NeuroSky as VP of Marketing and became VP of Business Development at BCInet in 2009, two companies in the Brain-Computer Interface industry.

chris noessel Speakers Chris Noessel, Cooper His prior experience has seen him developing interactive kiosks and spaces for museums, helping to visualize the future of counter-terrorism, building prototypes of coming technologies for Microsoft, and designing telehealth devices to accommodate the crazy facts of modern health and healthcare.  His spidey sense goes off about random topics, and this has led him to speak at conferences about a wide range of things including interactive narrative, ethnographic user research, interaction design, sex-related interactive technologies, free-range learning, and, most recently, the relationship between science fiction and interface design with co-author Nathan Shedroff.

JohnCanning Speakers John Canning, Founder, Media Sherpa John Canning’s career has spanned media production, delivery and platforms for over 20 years. Canning runs MediaSHerpa Consulting and Productions that focuses on digital media and game strategy and technology consulting for major companies such as Mary Margaret Network, Disney as well as small startups. In addition, MediaSherpa Productions has done work for the likes of the Vatican, the Monaco Film Festival and ARC – The A&R Channel. John currently serves as the executive producer and videographer for Green Living Project.

JohnSmart Speakers John Smart, Acceleration Studies Foundation John M. Smart is an evolutionary developmental systems theorist, technology scholar, and futurist. He is a professor and program champion of the Emerging Technologies M.S. at the University of Advancing Technology (Tempe, AZ), and President of the Acceleration Studies Foundation (Accelerating.org) a community advancing the scholarship and strategy of accelerating technological change. John is a co-founder of the international Evo Devo Universe research community (EvoDevoUniverse.com) exploring evolutionary and developmental processes of change in technology, biology, and other complex systems. John has a B.S. in business from U.C. Berkeley, an M.S.-eq. in physiology and medicine from U.C. San Diego, and an M.S. in futures studies from the University of Houston. John has authored a number of long-term technology foresight documents, including MetaverseRoadmap.org, on the 20-year future of the 3D web, and How the Television Will Be Revolutionized, 2010, a look at 10 year future of interactive television.

ToddMargolis Speakers Todd Margolis, UCSD Technical Director, Center for Research in Computing and the Arts Todd Margolis is an artist, educator and technologist, currently the Technical Director of the Center for Research in Computing and the Arts (CRCA) at UCSD. Margolis’ current research draws on over a decade of experience creating tele-collaborative environments. His most recent project, ATLAS in silico, blends art, science, interactive media and emerging technologies to reflect upon humanities long standing quest for an understanding of the nature, origins and unity of life. While a Visiting Research Programmer at UIC, he co-developed a new virtual reality system, The Varrier™ Auto-Stereographic display and is currently working on an augmented reality system called HUVR. Margolis has co-organized & participated in CineGrid’s international next generation digital cinema workshop panels & presentations every year since its founding in 2006. He is also a founding member of the immersive and interactive art and technology non-profit organization, Applied Interactives. In addition, he has published multiple papers on mixed reality artworks & systems.
