What is Gesture Control (GC)? The Meddling Geniuses at ImmersiveTech break it down and explain it in plain simple English. Pointing to and tapping your wrist means you’re asking what time it is in any part of the world. Gesturing has been around before the days of verbal communication, but early exploration of gesture control started only in the early 1980′s.

Gesture Control (Gesture recognition and Interface) is a term for human interaction with an electronic device by the use of simple hand gestures and body movements. Companies like Mgestyk Technologies and Oblong Industries use computer vision and gesture gloves to allow user input that expresses their will and commands without the use of a traditional keyboard and mouse-based system. The ways that we interact with computers and other electronic devices have evolved in such a way that it has become progressively simplified and intuitive. Just as the mouse was a great leap forward in becoming a standard form of interface control, so too will gesture control.

The world’s first ever Immersive Technology Summit will be held at the Los Angeles Center Studios (LACS) on October 21st, 2010.
