Cool!! :) Can I have one?

There is no editing (apart of the cut between each effects, obviously). All is done live, and I’m actually watching myself in a monitor in front of me, with the effects added live.

This was really well done but of course there were a bunch of flaws :P Still damn amusing to watch xD

Congrats on making it onto a list of fan-made portal videos on the official Portal group on Steam.

Wait? I was fooled at 1:48

How was the ball outside of the frame?

Are the pictures edited intot he vid in post-production or are there cameras on the abck of the frames sending pictures to the other frame live?

You can see an editing error in 1:51. ^^
    But wow. Looks cool!!
    The cake is a spy!!

I’ve been asked to do this effect for a client and have been searching up what’s possible. could you explain this system for me?

use those trying to destroy turret while its asking you “are you still there?”

  • ydyammo

I was baffled the first time round… but watching it again, you can see the flaws plainly.
At 0:10, his left hand gets distorted at the knuckles, as the computer tries to match the two images.

  • ramariel

based on my limited knowledge of the Augmented Reality software they are using, the webcam and computer are using the little images on the frames to track the frames in space. The designer then programs the software to take a snapshot of what is seen through one frame, and place that image over the other frame, and vice verse, creating that ‘image swapping’ effect. Its pretty cool stuff. Google search “ARToolkit” for information on some of the technology that makes this possible.

A mirror “swaps” the left and the right of an image, here it’s an electronic mirror that swaps the content of two rectangles.

  • EmmanuelMFr

Imagine two persons holding hollow portals in front of a screen, and on the screen the views are swaped. It’s like a mirror with special effects.

  • Snip3rNife

In trying to make heads or tails of this, I’d sound like a tool. What exactly is going on?

  • http://www.mydomain.com Snip3rNife

    I don’t get this.

I’d say it’s fake but then I’d have to know what I’m talking about first, so I don’t know what to think.

Okay… But if there’s no screen, then how is the view out the opposite portal being displayed?

  • EmmanuelMFr

There’s no green screen, and even no screen at all, it is a real-time swap of the inside of the hollow portals in the video.

  • http://www.mydomain.com WackoMcGoose

Um wait, if there’s a screen in each of those, then how do you put your hand through them? And how did you swap the orange and green balls through the “portals”? Oh my aching head…
Despite my brain asploding, this video contains epic win. I think we’re one step closer to actually simulating Portals in real life.

    That is awesome and trippy.
