    This is the future.

    I want augmented reality glasses…
And as a technology, augmented reality needs to move away from “markers” and more towards real world objects.

Or a visors like Samus’s on Metroid. Or GPS, Surgery. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!

YES you are so right. Sweet! Plus it would be in 3D with the glasses and not 2D on the screen. I can see the technology used to train soldiers in courses where they have to clear out a building with computer generated AI that react and move around realistically unlike the current projector technology being used.

I suspect Apple is already well advanced into producing a prototype for something like this. The day will come when PCs like iMacs are worn and mobile compared to stationary on a desk. Convergence with today’s cell phones into something like you’ve described will be inevitable.

Incidently, if this happens MS will be f***ed.

definitely not. they used traditional motion capture in post production.

its crap on the screen …..what we need is glasses /contact lenses!

  • EbilPhish

You can also get it to work on iPhones and Android phones, thats a bit more usefull than on a screen but right now the framerate isn’t too good.

In the future you will have glasses or contact lenses with computer displays in them, you will no longer need mobile phones or mp3 players since they can all be done through the glasses (either as virtual reality devices or just simple gestures). Once that happens you can log into a network that contains VR information for the area you are in.

    This is REALLY cool!
I wonder if that is what was used
    for all those HP commercials
(like the newer one, with Fregie),
    and the musci video for
    Talib Kweli “Hot Thing”?

you mean that with this we could have net-navis!?
    OMG :D

It’s not very practical at this point. You can only see it on screen. If you see these 3D holographic images in real then it’d be cool. There is a technology that allows us to see videos, animations on a paper thin screens. You can roll it, bend it, and still see videos on it.

  • Navenfaux

I just meant that in real life, outside of movies, that we would be able to see a video clip in our daily newspaper, or otherwise.
Maybe like a navigational assistant who stands on your dashboard.

  • Fl0Vid

What do you mean? This technology replaces markers in movies with 3d models. It already exists…

recently saw an episode of “prototype this” that used AR. pretty interesting stuff.

you guys are dumb. its real augmented reality. Meaning those 3d images are layed over top of those marker squares on the computer screen, so you dont see them in life, but on the live video feed only. Look up augmented reality before you guys start bashing things you dont know about.

  • isaaccade

it was made to be an example…. ofcourse it is fake, but the tech is out today. Its animation

the only problem i think with this is that what will we be actully doing(in the real world) how are we gonna be kept in good health, proper diet etc etc… and are we all gonna sit in a chair and put on vr goggles? or are we gonna be kept inside a tank filled with water like those sci fi movie? can anyone answer my question?

  • xKiyohime

    I just hope they create it completely before I die. D;

Microcomputing + flat OLED + AR = realistic graphics + Wearable + cool + HUD + interactive environment. We may be entering the virtual world faster than we think. This will undermine our perception of the real world, i’m both excited and worried about it.
